(AP) ? Shakespeare's Globe theater is about to take the Bard's words literally ? "All the world's a stage."

The London theater announced Tuesday that it plans to tour a production of "Hamlet" to every country in the world, some 205 nations and territories in all.

The small-scale production, performed by a cast of eight, will tour the world between April 2014 and April 23, 2016 ? the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

"By train, coach, plane and boat, we aim to take this wonderful, iconic, multifarious play to as many fresh ears as we possibly can," said artistic director Dominic Dromgoole.

The target of 205 nations and territories could vary a little, and exactly what constitutes a country is in some cases contested. The United Nations has 193 member states, while there were 204 teams in the London Olympics.

"We are aware that it is insanely ambitious," said Globe spokeswoman Emma Draper. But she said the company ? and the British Council, a government-backed agency that will support the tour ? believed it was possible.

Venues have yet to be determined, but will include Helsingor in Denmark ? also known as Elsinore, where Shakespeare's tragedy is set ? and Kenya's Rift Valley. The tour will start and end at Shakespeare's Globe, a replica Elizabethan playhouse on the south bank of the River Thames in London.

The tour is the flipside of last year's Globe to Globe festival, which brought troupes from around the world to London to perform Shakespeare's plays in 37 languages.

Theater director Peter Brook said "Hamlet" was "the most all-encompassing" and universal of Shakespeare's plays.

"The six simplest words in the English language are 'to be or not to be,'" he said. "There is hardly a corner of the planet where these words have not been translated.

"To take 'Hamlet' in its original language around the world is a bold and dynamic project," he said.

State TV won't show Miss Italia; pageant unhappy

ROME (AP) ? The organizer of Italy's Miss Italia beauty pageant is criticizing the state-run television network's decision not to broadcast this year's contest, a step that comes as audiences for the show have dwindled and amid pressure to improve how women are portrayed in the Italian media.

Miss Italia's finals have been shown on RAI in September for 25 years. But the broadcaster's general director, Luigi Gubitosi, was quoted as saying Tuesday by the Italian news agency ANSA that "the format by now has become outdated."

Scantily-clad women are a mainstay of much of Italian TV, with everything from quiz shows to talk shows featuring leggy showgirls on state channels as well as on private networks. The formula was championed by media mogul Silvio Berlusconi on the nation's three main private networks before he became a political leader.

On Monday, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini, hailed the decision to abandon the traditional transmission of the contest finals as a "civilized and modern choice."

"I hope that Italian young women will have the chance to be appreciated, even on television, in a different way than by parading with numbers on them," she told a conference on violence against women.

But Patrizia Mirigliani, the organizer of the contest, blasted RAI's decision, saying the broadcaster, which is funded partially by taxpayers, should instead try to modernize the show's format. She insisted that the pageant doesn't degrade women.

"In the past years, I've worked hard to change the competition, keeping it up-to-date," she told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "Miss Italia is about a woman who is beautiful, but also complete and eager for challenges. But this idea hasn't come through" on TV, she contended.

For example, Mirigliani said, TV emcees have clung to the format of asking the contestants what she called "silly questions."

Francesca Giammaria, a Roman, applauded the decision by RAI as a first step toward changing how young women like her are viewed.

"It's true that there are more serious problems" surrounding the image of women in Italy, "but let's start from the small things," she said as she enjoyed a quick meal with friends near the Pantheon.

But others might miss the annual TV show. Silvana Contristano, a middle-aged Roman, said she "always watched Miss Italia. It didn't do any harm. It was a tradition."

Her husband, Ugo Nocentini, disagreed. "I totally understand the doubts about the program's value for public service. It's farcical," he said.

Boldrini suggested there was a clear connection between sexism on television and physical abuse against women. "If women are made into objects, the distance from there to violence is small," she said.

But Mirigliani called Miss Italia a "show for families" and noted that such pageants are shown on television around the world.

The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano jumped into the fray, with a commentary Tuesday praising RAI's decision to pull the plug on the program. It called the pageant a "miserable bandwagon" that has become "unsuitable for public service."

Clippy hits the road as Office 365 expands to 38 new countries

Almost five months after its debut, Office 365 is getting 38 new passport stamps. Clippy's hitting such exotic locales as Fiji, the Bahamas and Barbados, and it's even picking up new languages along the way. The subscription-based productivity suite now includes support for Vietnamese, Arabic and Malay. What's more, Redmond is happily accepting five new currencies for payment, too. Brazil, Hong Kong, Mexico, Malaysia and India can all use their native money to pay for the software as a service. Sadly, there's still no word from Microsoft about accepting Bitcoins.

Factbox: Six-woman jury that acquitted George Zimmerman in Trayvon Martin case

SANFORD, Florida (Reuters) - A jury of six women acquitted neighborhood watch coordinator George Zimmerman on Saturday of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager.

The jurors declined to speak after the verdict was announced, according to a court official. A glimpse of the women - five of whom are white and one of whom is Hispanic - who reached the verdict in the racially fraught case follows.

Juror B29 was the sole Hispanic member on the jury panel. The mother of eight children, all but one younger than 18, works the overnight shift at a nursing home that cares for Alzheimer's patients. Before recently moving to Florida, she lived in Chicago, where she saw vendors selling T-shirts bearing an image of Martin's face.

Juror B37 is a mother of two who grew up in a military family and used to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. She thinks most gun training is inadequate and when asked her thoughts during jury selection on the right to bear arms, she told the judge, "I have an issue with what kind of arms they're allowed to bear."

Juror B76 is active in pet rescue and is the mother of two grown children. After working in a family construction business, she now manages family rental properties. She told the judge, "Our family's pretty open-minded. ... We like to base our judgment on the whole story."

Juror E40 has worked as a safety officer for 20 years. She is the mother of a grown son and recently moved to central Florida from Iowa. She told the judge she believed gun owners needed to realize "there's a responsibility attached to bear arms."

Juror E6 is a mother of two who told the judge she transformed news of the shooting into a "teaching moment" that enabled her to talk to her children about "behavior that was safe, not that you're doing anything wrong, but be proactive ... don't put yourself in harm's way." She worked for a short time in financial services but is currently unemployed and enjoys gardening.

Juror B51 is single and retired from her job as a business manager overseeing 1,200 employees at a call center. In her job, she became experienced with changing her mind when presented with new facts. She spends her free time visiting family. After initially hearing news of the shooting, she told the judge, she was surprised that a neighborhood watch program would have someone taking as active a role as Zimmerman. She said Zimmerman was in the wrong when he ignored a dispatcher's instruction not to follow Martin. "He didn't wait and the rest. We know what happened," she said.

Insight: Nigeria Islamists hit schools to destroy Western ideas

By Isaac Abrak

MAMUDO, Nigeria (Reuters) - They crept up to the school under cover of darkness, armed with petrol and automatic weapons.

Most of the teachers and pupils had fled, but some students, one teacher and headmaster Adanu Haruna were still in the compound, one of many rural boarding schools in Nigeria surrounded by forest and farmland.

"They made the students line up and strip naked, then they made the ones with pubic hair lie face down on the ground," Haruna said, eyes wide with horror at describing the attack on the iron-roofed school built by British colonizers in the 1950s.

"They shot them point blank then set the bodies on fire."

The Mamudo government school, charred and smelling of scorched blood after 22 students and a teacher were killed there in the July 6 attack near Potiskum in Nigeria's northeast, was the fourth to be targeted by suspected Boko Haram militants in less than a month.

The attacks reveal much about the rebels who are fighting to revive a medieval Islamic caliphate in northern Nigeria, the type of state they are seeking to establish and the impact of their efforts to do so on the African economic powerhouse.

In a video uploaded to the Internet on Saturday, Boko Haram's purported leader Abubakar Shekau denied ordering the latest killings, saying Boko Haram does not itself kill small children, but he praised attacks on Western schools.

"We fully support the attack on school in Mamudo, as well as on other schools," he said. "Western education schools are against Islam ... We will kill their teachers."

Boko Haram, a nickname which translates roughly as "Western education is sinful", formed around a decade ago as a clerical movement opposed to Western influence, which the sect's founder, Mohammed Yusuf, said was poisoning young minds against Islam.

Yet security forces and politicians were the main targets of the armed revolt it started after Yusuf's killing in a 2009 military crackdown that left 800 people dead.

Since those days Boko Haram has splintered into several factions, including some with ties to al Qaeda's Saharan wing, which analysts say operate more or less independently, despite Shekau's loose claim to authority over them.

Before June, there had been only a handful of attacks on the Western-style schools it so despises.

An offensive against the insurgents since President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in three remote northern states in May, wresting control of the far northeast from Boko Haram and pushing its fighters into hiding, has changed that.

Across northeastern Nigeria, schools are emptying out, threatening further radicalization and economic decline in a region left behind by the country's oil-rich Christian south.

Nassir Salaudeen, a teacher whose son was killed in a strike on Damaturu government school on June 16, the first of the wave of recent attacks, said he had put all his efforts into his boy's education in the hope he would get a good job.

"They killed him in cold blood, just because he was a student and his father a teacher," a tearful Salaudeen said. "I regret ever being educated."

"SOFT TARGETS"

For some, the school attacks are a sign the offensive has weakened the Islamist group, which is still seen as the main security threat to Africa's leading oil and gas producer.

"Given the security clampdown, many of the places like police stations or the military are getting harder for Boko Haram to hit," said Kole Shettima, chairman of the Centre for Democracy and Development. "Schools are soft targets."

But the attacks also reflect a radical ideology that resents modernity and yearns to wind back the clock to an era before West African lands were conquered by Europeans.

Centuries ago northern Nigeria, like much of West Africa, was ruled by Islamic empires feeding off trans-Saharan trade routes connecting Africa's forested interior with its Mediterranean coast.

Boko Haram rarely gives statements to the media. But the little it has said suggests it wants to restore those glory days.

Last year, the sect said it wanted to revive the 19th century caliphate of Usman Dan Fodio, an Islamic scholar who threw off corrupt Hausa kings and established strict Sharia law.

When Britain established Nigeria as a territory, it agreed to spare the largely Muslim north's leaders the activities of missionaries, who brought Christianity but also education and literacy that gave the south a head start over the north.

The north was able to retain its Islamic culture but at the cost of suffering economically; political and economic power has shifted to the south and the education gap has played a role in that growing discrepancy.

A lack of education and high youth unemployment has also helped Boko Haram's Islamist ideology to thrive.

"Boko Haram think the secular school system has brainwashed Nigerians to accept the post-colonial Western order and forget the Islamic ways that existed before," said Jacob Zenn, an expert on the sect at the Washington-based Jamestown Foundation.

The attacks, which the U.N. children's fund (UNICEF) says have killed 48 students and seven teachers in the past month, aim to scare parents and their kids away from schools.

"It says: 'either take your children out of school or put them into an Islamist school we approve of'," Zenn said, one that teaches only in Arabic and omits courses like science.

He added that such schools need not necessarily be Boko Haram sponsored: there are conservative Islamic schools for children where they study under an Imam and the curriculum is all in Arabic and focused on the Koran. The sect accepts them.

"SCHOOLS DESERTED"

Many people are turning away from education altogether.

"The risk isn't worth it. These guys are just mindless," said Mike Ojo, a mechanic in the northeastern city of Maiduguri who is taking his three children out of school.

Even if they stayed, many teachers have left, said teacher Ali Umar from a Maiduguri secondary school, and in many schools there are often too few teachers for the pupils who stay put, leaving them with little choice but to leave.

"I am not prepared to die for teaching. Time to start looking for a new job," he said, shrugging. "Most of our schools are deserted anyway."

The spot where Halima Musa's husband was shot dead at their home on June 16 -- in front of her and the children -- is still caked with his dried blood, the wall pocked with bullet holes.

They came at 3 a.m., guns blazing, demanding she open the door. She begged them to stop as they dragged the teacher out.

"They shot him three times in the head and told me that this should be a lesson not to marry a western educated person or any person that works for President Jonathan," she said, choking back tears in front of three traumatized children.

Yobe state education commissioner Mohammed Lamin complained that the military had not done enough to protect schools from attack, even after they were targeted.

Before the murderous assault on the Maumdo school, there had been an earlier attack on May 8, in which some property was burnt. Headmaster Haruna said the security forces he called for help patrolled initially but stopped after a week.

The military was not immediately available to comment, but it has said in the past it is doing all possible to protect civilians while crushing the insurgents in its offensive.

Schools are a devastating target for an impoverished region suffering a high rate of illiteracy, but Lamin says he is determined that Yobe's children get educated.

"These terrorists are trying to stop western education but we cannot allow them do that," he said. "We must do everything to ensure children are safe in the school."

Popocatepetl volcano covers Mexico City in volcanic ash

Popocatepetl volcano spewed a 2-mile-high cloud of ash over Mexico City over several days of eruptions. Volcanic dust from the Popocatepetl volcano has coated cars in Mexico City and thicker accumulations coated crops, homes, and sidewalks in towns closer to the volcano.

The?Popocatepetl?volcano?just east of Mexico City has spit out a cloud of ash and vapor 2 miles (3 kilometers) high over several days of eruptions, and Mexico City residents awoke Saturday to find a fine layer of volcanic dust on their cars.

It has been years since the center of the nation's capital has seen a noticeable ash fall because prevailing winds usually blow the volcanic dust in other directions. Ash fell earlier this week in some neighborhoods on Mexico City's south and east sides.

The city's legion of car washers quickly wiped the fine coating from cars on Saturday with no apparent ill effects.

Claudia Dominguez, spokeswoman for the Mexico City civil defense office, said the very fine ash had probably been floating around the city from eruptions in previous days and had been brought to Earth by a rainfall late Friday. She said no new ash fall had been reported Saturday, despite continuous eruptions of vapor and ash into the air from the 15,000-foot (5,450 meter)?volcano.

While city residents were surprised by the talcum-like ash, inhabitants of towns nearer the?volcano?have had to deal with much thicker accumulations that have coated their crops, homes and sidewalks.

In San Pedro Nexapa, located about nine miles (15 kms) from the?volcano, residents swept up small piles of ash from a few square yards (meters) of sidewalk. Some residents wore surgical masks to ward off the dust raised by passing vehicles.

"The ash affects us a lot, because we get our water from the snow melt from?Popocatepetl, and right now we can't use the water for bathing, for cooking, we can't even give it to our animals," said Agustina Perez Gutierrez, a housewife in San Pedro Nexapa.?

Mexico's National Center for Disaster Prevention raised the?volcano?alert from Stage 2 Yellow to Stage 3 Yellow, the final step before a Red alert, when possible evacuations could be ordered. A Stage 3 Yellow alert had been in effect during eruptions earlier this year until early June, when it was lowered.

Mexico's National Center for Disaster Prevention reported there had been three explosive eruptions at the peak late Friday and early Saturday ? events that usually toss glowing-hot rock on the?volcano's?flanks. It said that?Popocatepetl?has also continuously spewed clouds of ash into the air, most of which was headed northwest, toward Mexico City.

U.S. airlines canceled at least one flight at Mexico City's airport on Friday as a precautionary measure, though airport authorities said the terminal was fully able to operate. Alaska Airlines had cancelled its route to Los Angeles, the airport press office said in its Twitter account.

On Friday, four airlines cancelled a total of 17 flights "due to climate conditions and in accordance with their own internal policies," the airport said in a statement.

The?volcano?is about 40 miles (65 kilometers) from the airport, which is in turn a few miles east of the city's center.

The Environment Ministry has urged residents to take preventive measures to deal with the ash, including wearing dust masks, covering water supplies and staying indoors as needed.

Mexico City authorities recommend that people sweep up any ash and put it plastic bags to keep it from mixing with water and forming a concrete-like substance that can block drains.

Your Office Coach: Don?t start a cold war over 'bless you'

Q: I share an office with ?Megan,? who always says ?bless you? when I sneeze. I think this is a silly habit, so when she sneezes, I say nothing. Recently, Megan scolded me for being rude when I failed to bless one of her sneezes. What?s the best way to handle this?

A: Blessing sneezes is like saying ?excuse me? when you bump into someone. Despite having no basis in logic, it has become an expected social custom. So the real question is not whether these blessings have a valid purpose, but whether the relationship with your officemate matters to you.

Megan obviously believes that blessing a sneeze signifies caring and respect, so her feelings are slightly hurt every time you fail to do so. Currently, the two of you are playing a ridiculous game in which Megan sneezes, then quietly waits to see if you will respond. Meanwhile, you sit in stony silence just to make your point. Does this not seem rather juvenile?

So here?s your choice. If the relationship is important, then saying ?bless you? is simply a minor courtesy that will cost you nothing. On the other hand, if you choose to stand your ground, at least help Megan understand your motivation.

For example: ?Megan, even though I know it seems rude to you, I have always felt that saying ?bless you? after a sneeze is a meaningless gesture. For that reason, I never say it to anyone, so I want you to know that I am not being disrespectful. It?s just something that I don?t do.?

If this explanation seems a bit awkward and contrived, perhaps it?s because staunchly refusing to bless a sneeze is actually just as silly as doing so.

Q: My company employs a lot of people in contract positions. Sometimes these contractors are allowed to conduct performance appraisals on employees. Does this sound like a good business practice?

A: The obvious answer ? and the one I expect you are looking for ? would seem to be no. But you might be surprised to learn that in some situations this policy could be appropriate.

These days, organizations use contract employees in a wide variety of roles. Contractors can be found managing important projects and even holding executive positions. Some companies have actually employed contract CEOs on an interim basis.

If the contractor is a full-time manager who directly supervises a staff, then that person is the logical choice to assess their performance. Nevertheless, such a decision should always be reviewed by legal experts and approved by top management. Under any other circumstances, the practice would be questionable.

When someone else is preparing appraisals, however, it is perfectly appropriate for contractors to provide feedback on employees with whom they have worked. Including input from a variety of credible sources always increases the validity of a performance review.

Medical university study in Kyoto manipulated data on blood pressure medicine Diovan

An investigation team at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine disclosed that the results of a study of a drug to treat high blood pressure may contain errors due to manipulation. The team found discrepancies in the patients? medical records for a study on the drug Diovan from Novartis Pharma.

Results of the study showed that the drug is more effective compared to other similar drugs to reduce brain strokes and angina. But the investigative team discovered that while the drug is indeed effective in treating high blood pressure, the conclusion that it is better than other drugs for brain strokes and angina may be wrong. The team looked into the medical records of 223 out of 3,000 patients who participated in the study. It was discovered that 34 of them falsely stated that they may or may not have had a stroke. Hiroaki Matsubara, former professor of cardiovascular internal medicine at the university, led the group that conducted the study and released the report in 2009. But allegations regarding its credibility led to his resignation in February this year.

The investigative team also discovered that one employee from Novartis Pharma was part of the study as a statistical data analyst. When the university contacted the company to interview the employee, they refused, saying the person has already left the company. Novartis Pharma denies that any data manipulation occurred or that they denied the request for the interview. They claim to have contacted the former employee but he/she declined to be interviewed.

Toshikazu Yoshikawa, president of the university, apologized for causing trouble during a news conference. They assured the public that they will be taking further steps to ensure that this will never happen again. An official from the Health Ministry said that once they receive the reports from four other universities who conducted an investigation into their own studies, they will then decide on the best preventive measures for this situation.

Amnesty official in Russia plans to meet Snowden

Map locates where Edward Snowden has applied for asylum; 3c x 4 inches; 146 mm x 101 mm;

(AP) ? A Russian official of Amnesty International says he plans to meet with Edward Snowden, the leaker of U.S. National Security Agency secrets.

Sergei Nikitin, head of the rights organization's Russia office, told The Associated Press the meeting would take place Friday, but he declined to say where. However, the head of the Moscow lawyers' association, Genri Reznik, was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying the meeting has been called for 4:30 p.m. (1230 GMT) at Moscow's Sheremetyevo international airport.

Snowden is believed to have been stuck in the transit zone at Sheremetyevo as he negotiates for asylum in another country.

Russian news agencies reported that Snowden had called on several organizations, among them Transparency International and Human Rights Watch, to meet with him at the airport. Reznik told Interfax that he had also received the invitation and would try to go.

The deputy head of HRW's Moscow office, Tatiana Loshkina, was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying it was unclear if she would go to the meeting. Phone calls to Transparency International went unanswered.

Snowden has not been seen in public since arriving in Moscow from Hong Kong, where he had fled before his leaks about American Internet surveillance were made public.

Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia have said they would be willing to grant asylum to Snowden. But it is unclear if Snowden could fly from Moscow to any of those countries without passing through the airspace of the United States or allied countries.

Reznik, the lawyer, said he expected Snowden called for the meeting in order to seek asylum in Russia.

Snowden made an earlier application for Russian asylum. But Russian President Vladimir Putin said asylum would be conditional on Snowden stopping leaking U.S. secrets; Snowden then withdrew his asylum bid, Russian officials said.

'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.': Meet Agent Grant Ward From ABC And Marvel's New Superhero Series (VIDEO)

  • Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine: Eliza Dushku

Backstabbing and butt-kicking are two of the reasons Eliza Dushku has become a Whedonverse actress close to our hearts. She can pull both off with sexy finesse, which is needed to play S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and sometimes Nick Fury love interest <a href="http://marvel.wikia.com/Valentina_Allegra_de_Fontaine_%28Earth-616%29" target="_hplink">Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine.</a>

  • Jessica Jones: Amy Acker

ABC was developing a series based on Brian Michael Bendis' "Alias" comics with <a href="http://marvel.wikia.com/Jessica_Jones_%28Earth-616%29" target="_hplink">Jessica Jones</a>, a onetime superhero who gives up the spandex and becomes a private eye. The series has been scrapped, but there's no reason Ms. Jones can't find her way into the "Avengers" world, either as a private eye, or S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Either way, Jessica Jones is a fascinating -- and tortured -- character who is ripe for TV.

  • Dum-Dum Dugan: Neal McDonough

In the comics, <a href="http://marvel.wikia.com/Timothy_Dugan_%28Earth-616%29" target="_hplink">Dum-Dum Dugan</a> is one of Nick Fury's right-hand men. After originally appearing in "Captain America: The First Avenger," Neal McDonough could reprise the role for Joss Whedon's "S.H.I.E.L.D." series thanks to the use of comic book magic. Example: S.H.I.E.L.D.'s usage of life model decoys, or LMD.

  • Norman Osborn: Alan Tudyk

No self-respecting comic-book story can function without a bad guy, and Osborn/the Green Goblin certainly qualifies. No character did more to damage S.H.I.E.L.D., which means he could be the basis for a season-long arc (or three), and Tudyk proved in "Dollhouse" that he can play scary, damaged characters very well. Obviously he's got a commitment to ABC's "Suburgatory," but if he's underused again in the upcoming season, we say set him free!

  • Jimmy Woo: Ken Watanabe

This Asian-American secret agent would work well within the context of a weekly spy-adventure series, and ever since Watanabe reminded us in "Inception" of what a charismatic actor he is, we've wanted to see a lot more of him on our screens. Delving into the "life model decoy" stories that Woo was involved in would also allow Whedon and the writers to explore the kind of identity issues seen in the short-lived Fox drama "Dollhouse."

  • Daisy Johnson: Amber Benson

Johnson, who in the comics is Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., has the ability to cause seismic activity and once defeated Magneto that way. It's been too long since Benson had a prominent role on television, and the role of Daisy would draw on her strength, range and general ability to kick ass.

  • Jessica Drew: Summer Glau

Glau, who debuted as a dancer in the "Buffy" spinoff "Angel" before blowing our minds on "Firefly," has the right kind of physicality and grace for the role of Jessica Drew, the original Spider-Woman. After a series of adventures fighting a wide array of bad guys, Drew eventually became a private investigator, meaning she (possibly in combination with a similar character, Jessica Jones) could potentially anchor a weekly drama with procedural overtones.

  • Carol Danvers: Evan Rachel Wood

Wood proved her dramatic chops at a young age thanks to her breakthrough role in "Thirteen," and after showcasing her kick-ass side in "True Blood," we think there are few young actresses that could pull off Carol Danvers' combination of poise and empowerment as well as she could. In the comics, Major Carol Danvers (AKA Ms. Marvel) has served as executive director of S.H.I.E.L.D. after Nick Fury was deposed, and is a superheroine in her own right after an explosion caused her genetic structure to meld with Captain Marvel's, imbuing her with superhuman strength and flight. Since we're betting ABC doesn't have the budget for a super-powered superhero show, we see Danvers as a respected agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. with aspirations towards leadership.

  • Sharon Carter: Tricia Helfer

As an integral part of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the occasional girlfriend of Captain America, Carter would be a key part of any TV spinoff, and Helfer proved on "Battlestar Galactica" and in countless guest roles that she has the presence, acting chops and physical ability to play the part of an active field agent with a complicated past. It'd be nice if Hayley Atwell, who played Sharon's aunt Peggy in the "Captain America" movie, wanted to play her own niece in the American drama, but that seems unlikely. Either actress would be a fine addition to the new show, but we'll admit that even the hint of a "BSG"/"Avengers" crossover makes us all tingly.

  • Marcus Johnson: Michael B. Jordan

Time will tell whether Whedon can lure Samuel L. Jackson back to TV on a regular or recurring basis to reprise the role of Nick Fury, or whether the S.H.I.E.L.D. series will take part in a specific subdivision that can explain the executive director's absence. Either way, we'd like to have our Fury cake and eat it, so rather than recasting, we propose including Marcus Johnson, <a href="http://marvel.wikia.com/Nicholas_Fury,_Jr._(Earth-616)" target="_hplink">Nick Fury's son</a>. Michael B. Jordan stole our hearts in "Friday Night Lights" as a teen who had a somewhat antagonistic relationship with his absentee father, so drafting Johnson in as a new S.H.I.E.L.D. recruit facing accusations of nepotism could be a good way to keep things in the family but stay within ABC's budget.

  • Clay Quartermain: Teddy Sears

Since Jensen Ackles and Warren Kole are occupied on other shows, we think "American Horror Story" and "Raising the Bar" star Sears is a good alternative for S.H.I.E.L.D agent Clay Quartermain, who is described as a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Quartermain" target="_hplink">"blond-haired, fast-talking, grinning Burt Lancaster"</a> sort of chap, as well as a former love interest of Jessica Jones. Sears also has Whedonverse credentials, having guest-starred in an episode of "Dollhouse."

  • Alexander Pierce: Enver Gjokaj

Eagle-eyed "Avengers" fans know that Gjokaj already has a role in the Marvel-verse, thanks to his blink and you'll miss it cameo as a cop in Whedon's movie. Still, Whedon has never been averse to recycling his favorite actors between projects, so we'd love to see the "Dollhouse" alum in "S.H.I.E.L.D." in some capacity. We were torn between this role and the more antagonistic character of <a href="http://marvel.wikia.com/Mitchell_Tanner_(Earth-616)" target="_hplink">Warhawk</a>, but figured that <a href="http://marvel.wikia.com/Alexander_Pierce_%28Earth-616%29" target="_hplink">Alexander Pierce's</a> position as Nick Fury's bodyguard and sleeper agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. was a good fit. Pierce has no superhuman powers in the comics, but is described as a skilled hand-to-hand combatant and marksman, something that we know Gjokaj could sell.

  • Tony Masters: James Marsters

Maybe it's the similarity in their names, but the villain-turned-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (or is it the other way round?) known as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taskmaster" target="_hplink">Taskmaster</a> would be a perfect role for the man who masterfully charted the evolution of Spike throughout "Buffy" and "Angel." Marsters also has experience playing a comic book villain thanks to his stint as Brainiac on "Smallville," and certainly has the charisma and menace to portray an antihero who could later be welcomed back into the agency.

  • Agent Coulson: Clark Gregg

Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson has been an integral part of the Marvel cinematic universe since his introduction in "Iron Man," and is so beloved by fans that he was retroactively brought into the comics. We still don't know if "S.H.I.E.L.D." will be a prequel or sequel to the events of the "Avengers" movie, but whether Coulson is revealed to be alive, a LMD, or Whedon suddenly introduces Phil's long-lost twin brother Bill, we need to see Clark Gregg in "S.H.I.E.L.D." in some capacity if the show goes to series.

After China, India could be KFC?s next big market

On July 10, Yum Brands, the parent company of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell reported yet another quarter of falling sales in China?down 20% at comparable stores, which translated into a 16% drop in earnings for the second quarter.

As we?ve said before, it?s time for Yum?which made 42% of its total profits in China last year?to move beyond China, where food-safety scandals and saturation in the fast-food market are taking a bite out of its business.?That?s why it is good news today?that Yum opened its 500th store in India, a Taco Bell in a shopping mall in Bangalore. Yum aims to double its stores in the country by 2015.

Fast-food retailers have been eyeing India, which like China, is home to an expanding middle class and growing cities. (The country?s urban population is slated to double over the next decade.) Yum started its expansion in India last year, announcing plans to spend $100 million over the next four to five years and breaking out its India business as separate division, similar to its China operation. Indeed, Yum has said it is using its China strategy as a model in India. Its Indian stores sell fare adjusted to local tastes like Tandoori paneer pizza, or veggie sandwiches. KFC in China has sold local fare like egg tarts, chicken in Sichuan sauce, and egg soup.

So far, so good. KFC competes closely with McDonald?s, which has long been the Western fast-food market leader there. Growth has been relatively strong with total sales, including those at Yum franchises, up 24%?in the second quarter. As long as Yum doesn?t mistranslate ?finger-lickin good? like it did in China, India could be a promising new market.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says the decision on how many U.S. troops to leave in Afghanistan won't be imminent. But it's leaving open the possibility the U.S. won't leave forces there after combat troops depart in 2014.

White House press secretary Jay Carney says the so-called "zero option" is still on the table. He says the U.S. will have clear objectives for its mission in Afghanistan after the long-planned drawdown. He says those objectives could be met with a residual force or through other means.

Carney's comments come amid sharp debate over America's long-term military commitment to Afghanistan and rising tensions between the U.S. government and Afghan President Hamid Karzai (HAH'-mihd KAHR'-zeye).
