For PPC advertisers or advertising companies have to pay the publisher particularly a website owner when the ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Generally content sites demand a fixed price per click instead of using a bidding system. Having an agreement to show ads, web sites or search engine results show PPC display advertisements with related content. Television and newspaper advertising use pay per impression method which is different from pay-per-click.
A generalized portal seeks to drive a high volume of traffic to one particular site but PPC implements the affiliate model to provide purchase opportunities wherever visitors may be surfing. It offers financial incentives to affiliated partner sites in the form of a revenue percentage. Thus PPC services does the job. The job of the affiliates is to provide purchase-point click-through to the merchant. This is a pay-for-performance model which means if an affiliate fails to generate sales, the merchant needs not provide any incentive. There may be some variations in the model including banner exchange, pay-per-click, and revenue sharing programs.
For PPC two types of cost determining methods are adopted such as flat-rate and bid-based methods. Flat-rate model entails an agreement between the advertiser and publisher upon a fixed amount to be paid for each click. In bid-based method the advertiser have to sign a contract to compete against other advertisers in an auction hosted in private by a publisher or an advertising network.
