The CLR is the execution engine at the heart of the .NET Framework, which is the foundation on which many Microsoft products and platforms are built. We are looking for a strong developer in the Deployment space (DEX). DEX is responsible for several feature areas including ClickOnce, InstallUtil, .NET deployment, Windows deployment, and servicing tools. In many cases, the first experience a customer has with our product is the deployment and servicing of it and it is our job to make that as simple and seamless as possible.
As a Dev on this team, you will get to work on all of these exciting feature areas. In the near term, you might help improve the deployment experience for .Net platform with enhancements to redistribution model or by building the latest version of .NET into Windows. In the long term you might influence the way software built on .NET is deployed.
This role is unique in many ways:
- Help set the industry standard deployment and remove barriers to entry for using the .NET platform.
- Interact with groups across Microsoft to help them deploy .NET software
- Work on a deployment and servicing model that simplifies the end user experience and accelerates Microsoft?s ability to respond to market needs.
As a Developer on the CLR Team, you are expected to
- Ramp up to be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all things related to .NET deployment.
- Be a technical leader on the team
- Interact smoothly with customers, both internal and external
- Own your feature area and have an impact on the features around you
- Be well versed in the development lifecycle (planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment and servicing) and adapt to any changes rapidly.
Qualified candidates meet the following requirements:
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science
- 3+ years of experience as a software developer (industry experience)
- Expertise in developing and debugging enterprise-class software using C#, C/C++
- Strong cross-group skills
- Possess excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Able to learn new technologies quickly
- Demonstrated ability to drive results across an entire product cycle
- Confident and enthusiastic in proposing and implementing own ideas
Preference for candidates who possess experience in:
- Software deployment and servicing
- Developing for .Net
This position requires solid computer science fundamentals and excellent design/problem-solving skills. Experience being the primary developer (or Technical Lead) on medium to large scoped features/projects is also highly desired. A good understanding of the .Net framework and C#, and strong debugging skills are attributes of a really strong candidate for this position. Knowledge and experience deploying and updating software deployments is a plus.
